I hope that all of you have had a great week, and you had fun with trying to "Be Still with Van Gogh"...creating a still life from home.  Thanks so much for those of you who shared your work with me this week!  Art can be such a wonderful way to relax and unwind.  I hope you are taking advantage of the beautiful Spring weather that God has given us.  I have seen many photos of you all drawing with chalk on the sidewalks and drawing pictures too.  THAT'S WONDERFUL!  Keep up the good work!  Next week your assignment will be fun and challenging. Until then enjoy these pictures of some great still life drawings I received this week:)

To all of my wonderfully talented students... I miss you so much!  I am so proud of you for taking my Monet for a Day challenge!  I had several of you send me pictures of your work.  Way to go! I am also really pleased with seeing pictures of you drawing with sidewalk chalk and some of you are placing crosses in your yard for the "FAITH OVER FEAR" movement. WOW!  Boys and girls this is what ART is all about! Art is life and life is art.  By going outside and creating sidewalk drawings with Bible verses and beautiful pictures you are sharing with the world God's love for us.  He is always with us and for us.  These pictures make us all happy...so keep creating!  Also with the cross.. that is just another example of how powerful ART can be.  It is an installation of light and promise.  It is a symbol of not only Christ and his love for us during holy week, but it is a testament of faith that we trust him during these strange and difficult times.  I am so proud to be your teacher.  I hope you will reach out to me again with photos of your next assignment...BE STILL WITH VAN GOGH.  Take care all and keep creating!

ELEMENTARY ART SHOW is at Buffalo's restaurant
on Zebulon Road

Hello all my little artists!  I am missing you all so much.  I did want to show you all that I did hang our little art show in Buffalos earlier this week.  All of this beautiful work was done in honor of Macon's Cherry Blossom Festival.  It is very sad that there is no festival this year, but it still is a very nice tribute to a tradition that our town is quite famous for.  Even though we are not eating out right now, I am prayerful that will change soon.  The show will hang for at least 4 weeks.  I hope you will be able to go see it and support a local restaurant too!  I am proud of the work you all do with me!  You are making your community happy when they see these pieces of you!!! Love, Mrs. Simmons

Kindergarten and Kandinsky

My Kindergarten students are off to a great start as they learn about abstract artist Kandinsky.  He grew up thinking he could hear color and lines.  Music inspired him as he created gorgeous works of abstract art.  The children used black paint while listening to selections from Mozart to paint various lines and shapes that the music inspired them to make.  The paintbrush danced around the page as the music changed in tempo and sound.  Great job!

5th grade Viking Nation

My 5th grade students are starting off the year by creating Viking Portraits telling us all what they are most excited about this coming school year.  We are all unified as one big Viking Nation and are happy to share are passions with one another!  They are off to a great start!

Addison is excited about soccer!

Logan and Ty are working hard on their interests!

DJ is enjoying the paint process!
